The Redención del Campesino Valley Archaeological Survey

Research Aims

The project has the following general aims:
  1. To produce a working model of the Pomoná/Piedras Negras territorial limits in the area based on the characteristics of the physical terrain.
  1. To produce a site predictive model aimed to identify those locations where the presence of secondary centers would be most likely. This in turn would assist us in establishing the survey strategy.
  1. To conduct a comprehensive survey of the Redención del Campesino Valley and immediate surroundings that would assist us in outlining the settlement pattern of the area, and propose a site hierarchy scheme for the valley.
  1. To conduct the excavation of the two caves visited and a test pit program on selected sites with the intent of recovering additional archaeological materials that will assist us in the reconstruction of the occupational history of the valley.

Unfortunately due to events out of our control the excavation of the caves could not take place. We are hopeful, however, that this stage will be accomplished in the near future.
