Traditional Medicine Among the Nahua: Contemporary and Ancient Medicinal Plants

Acknowledgements

My greatest thanks are due to the healing specialists and other people from Amatlán who very patiently answered my questions regarding plants and their taxonomy and uses.

I also owe a debt of thanks to Mtra. Verónica Juárez, Sr. Francisco Ramos, and Dr. Gerardo A. Salazar Chávez from the herbarium at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México who helped with the identification of the plants I collected.

This work could not have been carried out without the invaluable help of Sr. Paul Saavedra Rojas, who provided insight into the Nahuatl language and helped in translating the names of the plants collected.

Thanks also go to the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS) in México City, especially to Jesús Ruvalcaba and Juan Manuel Pérez, who helped me with the necessary paperwork and permits to carry out my research in Veracruz.

And finally, the 2005 field season in Amatlán could not have been carried out without the financial support from the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc., (FAMSI).
