Pokom Maya and Their Colonial Dictionaries
Introduction
The Documents of the "Viana" Dictionary
There are, according to Miles (1957), 5 separate vocabularies that together form the corpus of documents that I am calling the "Viana" dictionary of Poqom Maya. These are:
- Bocabulario de nombres que comiençan en Romance. 91 pps.
8 pps.
- Diccionario Pocomchi - Castellano y Pocomchi de San Cristobal Cahcoh. 290 pps. (Rojas 1875).
Acuna, in 1991, published 1., 2., 4 and the Spanish to Poqom portion of 5. It is the purpose of this work to present the text of items 3. and the Poqom to Spanish portion of 5. It is based upon a complete transcription of item 3 (which contains words beginning with the letter A and ends with words beginning with the letter N) and that part of 5 with Poqom words beginning with the letter N and continuing to the end of the document.
