Investigating an Inland Maya Port:
The 2003 Field Season at Trinidad de Nosotros, Petén, Guatemala
Acknowledgements
The 2003 season at Trinidad de Nosotros was made possible by the generous financial support of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. From FAMSI, I would like to particularly thank Dr. Sandra Noble for her encouragement and suggestions on the application process. Previous research at Trinidad was funded by the Middle American Research Institute, the Amherst College Fellowship Program, and Williams College.
The 2003 season was carried out under permits issued by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia de Guatemala (IDAEH) and I would like to personally thank Lic. Paulino Morales and Gustavo Amarra from the Departamento de Monumentos Prehispánicos y Coloniales for their efforts on our behalf. Further, I would like to thank Don Julian Tesucún Tesucún, alcalde of San José, for his generous permissions and continuing support of the Motul de San José Project.
The archaeological field staff in 2003 consisted of Christina Halperin (U.C.Riverside), Ellen Spensley (Boston University), Eric Kerns (Williams College), Benjamin Haldeman (Williams College), Yovany Hernández Véliz (CUDEP), and Gerson Martinez (CUDEP). Licda. Jeanette Castellanos Cabrera (Universidad de San Carlos) is currently assisting with laboratory analysis. I would like to especially thank these individuals for their skills and hard work during the field and laboratory seasons. Further, none of the research by the Motul de San José Project would be possible without the dedication and efforts of numerous individuals from the town of San José. I would like to particularly thank Don Jorge Arturo Zac Vitzil, Don Tirso Cortez Tesucún, Carlos Alonzo Ramos, Luis Alonzo Ramos, and Benedicto Gutierrez for their assistance and overall support during the past two seasons. Finally, I would like to thank Drs. Antonia E. Foias (Williams College), Kitty F. Emery (University of Florida Museum of Natural History), and E. Wyllys Andrews (Tulane University) for their continuing advice and support during research at Trinidad.
