Hun Ahau como Lucifer

La piedra angular del sermón que identifica a Hun Ahau como el originador de falsa sabiduría y el equivalente de Lucifer, incluye la traducción al maya yucateco de dos "discursos proféticos" de la Biblia. Las citas de Ezequiel e Isaías pueden haber sido elegidas por el mentor franciscano del autor maya, quien dice, "queremos traducirlos a su lengua maya a pesar de las dificultades". Ciertamente, el autor parece haber tenido tropiezos para entender la índole del "guardián querubín", que obliga a Hun Ahau/Lucifer a dejar su lugar en los cielos. Su descripción del querubín en términos puramente visuales indica que puede haber estado refiriéndose a una ilustración, en este punto de su enseñanza.

Mientras que menciona los aspectos negativos de Hun Ahau, el sermón reconoce su poder, y revela el riesgo de que un proselitista use a una deidad nativa para representar un concepto cristiano.¹³⁰ La audiencia puede temer ser dañada por Hun Ahau, especialmente si Venus en su papel de estrella matutina estuviera en ascendente en ese momento,¹³¹ pero decide propiciarlo en lugar de abandonarlo.

Aquí comienza una alocución directa a Hun Ahau/Lucifer, basada en Ezequiel 28: 11-20. En la Biblia, la condenación está dirigida hacia el rey de Tiro, más que hacia Lucifer.
