Después de que Dios creara a Adán con un cuerpo y un alma, confía todo el resto de Su creación a él, y le da la sabiduría necesaria para que nombre cada cosa correctamente. A medida que Adán avanza designando estos nombres, nota que no hay ningún otro ser como él. Entonces Dios pone a Adán en un sueño parecido a la muerte, y le extrae una "raíz" de las costillas de su lado izquierdo. A este hueso Dios lo reviste con carne y piel, y lo pone junto a Adán para que sea su complemento. Si bien el hombre y la mujer son dos seres, son como uno, originados de una misma carne y un mismo hueso. El autor advierte a su audiencia que deben considerar el gran pecado que cometen los ah toc casadoobe, los que rompen los matrimonios, y los hombres que abandonan a sus esposas, y las esposas que abandonan a sus esposos.
